Vienna Airport is continuously expanding its range of long-haul destinations. From December 1, 2024, another will be added: Hainan Airlines will connect Vienna with the Chinese province of Sichuan.
As Vienna Airport announced, Hainan Airlines will be offering a direct flight connection between Vienna and the mega-metropolis of Chengdu in Sichuan Province three times a week from the beginning of December. The flights will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The flight departs from Chengdu at 2:45 a.m. and arrives in Vienna at 6:05 a.m. The return flight departs from Vienna at 12:30 p.m. and arrives in Chengdu the following day at 5:10 a.m.
Chengdu, also known as the "City of Pandas", is located in southwest China and has a population of around 20 million. The metropolis is famous for its rich culture, fascinating history and world-famous Sichuan cuisine. Sichuan Province itself is home to around 80 million people, and Chengdu is considered one of the most important economic centers in the region.
The city is not only known for its economic importance, but also as the gateway to the famous panda breeding station, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, which is dedicated to the protection and breeding of pandas.
